Last April, it was reported that ClassDojo reached a major milestone. They raised $21 million in venture funding’s series B round for tech connecting students’ parents and teachers to communicate more effectively for the benefit of the child. So, instead of just getting a surprise once a semester in meetings between the teacher and the parent about the child’s learning and class participation, parents can use an app daily to see how their children are doing in school. General Catalyst led the series B round, and the new investors included Reach Capital, GSV, and SignalFire.
ClassDojo’s cofounders, Liam Don and Sam Chaudhary, said that their company closed the round in late 2015, and they are utilizing the capital to figure out helpful features and content for the parents using the app and to get more staff. The founders also stated that when they found ClassDojo in 2011, they noticed many educational tech companies producing digital grade books, curriculum, and testing platforms. However, there was no easy to use and free app that will produce a community and culture between the students, teachers, and parents. And having said that, ClassDojo now has competition with companies, such as Kickboard, Nearpod, FreshGrade, and Remind in which they maintain the connection between the students’ parents and schools as well.
ClassDojo has teachers within 85,000 US schools actively using them. This include charter schools, private schools, largest public schools, and more. And furthermore, mostly teachers from kindergarten through 8th grade are using them. And of course, they want even more teachers and parents to participate. Also, the founders said they will never benefit financially from the users’ data.
Launched in June 2011 by Liam Don and Sam Chaudhary, these founders of ClassDojo left the United Kingdom to join the Imagine K12’s inaugural class. ClassDojo is a communication platform app for parents, teachers and students. Photos, messages, and videos are shared with them. Also, big ideas are brought to life between the parents, teachers, and students for the creation of a positive culture with classrooms and schools.

ClassDojo has grown tremendously within a few years of their launching. In August of that same, their first version launched, and 80 teachers joined within one week of it launching. In September 2011, over 12,000 teachers joined ClassDojo, and 35,000 teachers, which is 1% of all US teachers, joined in October 2011.
