Most individuals consider themselves lucky to write a classic in just one genre. However, Alastair Borthwick created two classics in very different areas. The first classic is Always a Little Further, which was published in 1939. The book focused on a carefree number of years that Borthwick spent mountaineering in the highlands of Scotland. It is full of adventure and humor where he describes encounters with hawkers and tinkers as well as the usual youth shenanigans. The book also includes a journey to Ben Nevis where he boarded a lorry filled with dead sheep.
The classic describes the initial grass-roots movements into the hills of Scotland. Ever since it was published, Always a Little Further was known as a classic of outdoor literature. The book is remembered for its humor, memorable characters and Alastair Borthwick’s vivid descriptions which always made the classic more interesting than other novels on mountaineering and climbing during the time.
At first, Faber and Faber declined to publish the classic because they were not impressed with the new writing style and unique subject content. However, T.S. Elliot, who served as a member on the board of directors, insisted that the book should be published.
Alastair Borthwick’s second classic, Sans Peur was published in 1946. The book is also as popular as the first one. San Peur was written immediately after World War II, and it contains graphic detail and a sense of immediacy. Alastair had experienced a lot of incredible events during the war and was talented enough to recapture and describe this series of events accurately. Sans Peur was well received, and in 1994, it was republished with the title, ‘Battalion: a British infantry unit’s actions from El Alamein to the Elbe, 1942-1945′. The book received excellent reviews and widespread acclaim, now preserved as a non-fiction war classic.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Alastair Borthwick’s books were re-issued, and he enjoyed immense acclaim especially in the outdoor community. He also enjoyed the recognition along with Tom Weir, Seton Gordon, and Bill Murray, who were among the great celebrants of his home country’s highlands.
Technology is bringing the world, developing and developed, closer together and that increased connectivity has spurred an explosion in patent filings. It is a synergy of shared ideas and inventive thinking, but in a global economy built on information how do the owners of intellectual property capitalize and thrive on their work? Dr. Kamil Idris, an expert in this field of thinking, having served as the director general for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Geneva, wants to create the framework that can address that question.
The challenges of globalization include counterfeiting, piracy, and the privacy issues surrounding the piles of patents awaiting approval, and this is in the developed world. Kamil Idris, a citizen of Sudan, has the vantage point of someone familiar with intellectual property from a region of the world that is failing to reap its financial benefits. This is supported by a staggering statistic: less than 2% of international patent filings originate on the African continent.
The issue can be represented by a fact far simpler than patents though: black market channels are clogged with a glut of fraudulent designer items. There are more nefarious examples too, such as the prevalence of foreign companies setting up shop in developing countries. They familiarize themselves with local knowledge and then sell what they’ve learned to the world. Idris sees these financial costs in the greater context of the toll that economic loss has on the human and social networks with which it is intertwined.
The framework to confront this issue is in the nascent stages, but the World Trade Organization (WTO) has instituted the WIPO Copyright Treaty and the WIPO Phonograms and Performances Treaty. Idris, as director of WIPO, has championed and promoted both treaties by celebrating April 26 as World Intellectual Property Day. His hopes are that these are just the first steps towards confronting the demands of technology. As they currently read, both treaties are nothing more than agreements that intellectual property law needs to be reformulated for the digital world. Kamil Idris hopes now to see governments fall in line with WIPO’s lead.
Adam Milstein is an Israel-American stockholder in real estate. He is the manager of Hager Pacific Properties. In collaboration with his wife Gila, Milstein started the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation.
Adam Milstein’s early life.
Adam was born in Israel. His father was a real estate entrepreneur. Adam and his family spent their life in Kiryat Motzkin after settling from Haifa. Adam joined Israel Defense Forces in 1971 as a compulsory service. After serving the Army for several years, he joined the Technion and graduated with a degree in business and economics. While pursuing his university education, Adam used to help his father in developing their real estate business. He later got married to Gila Milstein, and they moved to the United States. After settling in U.S. Milstein achieved his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of PhilanthropistSouthern California. He then worked as a sales agent in a commercial real estate.
Adam Milstein is a co-founder and chairperson of the Israeli-American Council. He hinted that the organization intends to use the best potentials of Israelis to consolidate the Israeli-American relationship. The organization is very concerned with the uniqueness of the Israelis and the benefits they are giving to the American citizens and the economy as well.
The chairman also said that the organization has two secrets behind its rapid growth. Adam outlined their character as the top secret. He argued that most of the Israeli-American have never abandoned home-country aspects. They practice the same culture and speak the Hebrew language just like the indigenous Israelites. The Israeli-Americans are always grateful Jews. He detailed their love for the Israel state as their second secret. He maintained that they don’t only take Israel as their birth nation but also as the foundation of their history, culture, and strength. He kept that they don’t need any condition for supporting their home country.
Adam Milstein was very categorical in explaining the significance of the formed organizations. He maintained that any organization that intends to drag Israel by making it a destructor instead of a mediator will be losing the objective of the Israeli-American establishments.
Adam Milstein is an author on the JNS.org blog. His most recent article covers unlikely radical alliances that are escalating anti-Semitish all over the world. It talks about how this is nothing new and anti-Semitism is an ongoing issue, but it’s been burning hot on both the radical right and left.
In the article, Adam Milstein says, “anti-Semitism has become a cornerstone of radical Muslim movements.” Lately, North America has joined with Europe to see an alliance forming between the radicals of the left and Muslims. With a hatred shared between them of freedom of speech, Western influence around the world, and other causes, the left can look the other way when Muslims kill the homosexuals, ignore basic human rights, and stone women.
The way the left looks at it according to Adam Milstein is that Isreal is oppressing Muslims. They are then able to see this as the reason Jews are at fault for any of the issues the world is facing. In an example of this unlikely alliance, the activist Linda Sarsour who helped organize the Women’s March opened a speech she made by thanking Siraj Wajjaj who was not convicted but known to conspiring in the Trade Center bombing and praised the way Saudi Arabia treated women. She’s a known representative of the left and praising a Muslim radical.
Adam Milstein points out two recent events that prove this allegiance is still going strong. The first is the Chicago Dyke March and the second is the SlutWalk Chicago. The first was to celebrate the LGBT community but participants with Stars of David on their flags were kicked out. The second was to fight against sexual assault, but Zionists who marched were condemned by those who organized the march. After the SlutWalk, the organizers encouraged participants to attend a speech by a Palestinian terrorist who killed two Jewish students.
The far right isn’t excluded in the anti-Semitism. They have also worked with radical Muslims to spread the idea of hating Jewish people. A huge grouping that grows this hatred of the Jewish community is college campuses. Young people who are used to anti-Semitish being mainstream with people like Bernie Sanders campaigning for people like Jeremy Corbyn who worked with a Holocaust Denier and anti-Semitic personality, Paul Eisen. Things like this concern Adam Milstein that the future of the Jewish community in America is in danger.
Adam Milstein is a real estate entrepreneur and a philanthropist. He’s an Israeli-American who is the president of the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation and the national chairman of the Israeli-American Council.
